We will use Slido to take written questions from both in-person and virtual attendees. Attendees can download and use a Slido app, or simply access it from a web browser. With Slido, users can submit questions, see and upvote questions from others, and participate in polls fielded by speakers. Please note that Slido will not be integrated with Zoom, and we will not be using the Zoom Q&A feature.

If you are speaking at the meeting and would like to field a live poll or survey for attendees, please contact Robert Beets <[email protected]>. To do this, we are instructing speakers to set up their own Slido account and share a separate code and link on their slides.

Poster Halls

In addition to having a complete list of research presentations on the website, we will have interactive poster halls in Gather for attendees to virtually browse the posters and watch recorded videos. See the presentation formats and presentations judging webpages for instructions and details for preparing and submitting your posters, slides and videos to be installed in this space.

Network in the Lounge

Picture of the Gather Lounge and bar

For the mentoring activity and open networking times, the Gather Lounge is will be a central meeting place. Each table is a private space that allows for a more controlled and confidential conversation. The bar in the back of the room is one private space, so this is a great spot to meet up with and start conversations with new friends.

Using Gather

Throughout the hybrid meeting, we have ample breaks and some virtual-only sessions. See the schedule for a complete agenda. During all breaks and times dedicated to convening, lunch, and networking, virtual participants are encouraged to join the Gather space to talk with colleagues.

In Gather, you will have a 2-D avatar that you will move about the space using your arrow keys and interact with those nearby over video chat.

  • To move your avatar around the screen, use the arrow keys on your keyboard. ←↑→↓
  • Video/interacting: When your avatar is near another avatar/person or group of avatars, a Video chat window will appear on screen. If your avatar moves away, then you leave the conversation.

  • Click the video or microphone icons in your video window to turn video and microphone on or off.
  • At the bottom of the screen, you can click on your avatar to change how it looks.
  • At the bottom of the screen, you can click on your name to adjust your audio/video settings.

We will provide a detailed map of the space when Gather opens.
